Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy focused on evaluating and treating the muscles, tissues, breathing patterns, posture, and movement systems connected to pelvic health. Many women are unsure whether their symptoms are related to the pelvic floor or if physical therapy can help. If you are unsure where to start, you are welcome to schedule a brief complimentary consultation to discuss your concerns and determine the best next steps for your care.

DivineVagine Physical Therapy is a cash-based (or electronic payment), out-of-network practice designed to provide personalized, one-on-one pelvic floor physical therapy care without the limitations often associated with insurance-driven treatment models. Payment is due at the time of service. However, many insurance plans offer out-of-network reimbursement for physical therapy services. Upon request, a detailed superbill can be provided for patients to submit independently to their insurance provider for potential reimbursement. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to better understand your out-of-network physical therapy benefits and reimbursement eligibility.
Due to current Medicare regulations surrounding physical therapy services within a cash-based practice model, DivineVagine Physical Therapy is currently unable to provide services or superbills for Medicare beneficiaries. If you are a Medicare beneficiary and have questions regarding eligibility or appropriate care options, please feel free to reach out and we would be happy to help guide you toward the most appropriate resources when possible.

No. New Jersey is a direct access state, which means patients can begin physical therapy treatment without a physician referral or prescription in many cases. However, New Jersey law requires a licensed healthcare provider’s signature on the plan of care within 30 days of starting treatment in order to continue physical therapy services. If additional medical evaluation, imaging, or collaboration with another healthcare provider is needed based on your symptoms or presentation, appropriate recommendations and referrals will always be discussed to ensure safe and effective care.
-
Every patient and treatment plan is different. Frequency and duration of care depend on your symptoms, goals, medical history, and response to treatment. Your recommended plan of care will be discussed during your evaluation.

An internal pelvic floor examination is a gentle assessment used to better understand how the pelvic floor muscles are functioning. With your consent, a gloved finger may be used vaginally to assess pelvic floor muscle strength, coordination, tension, areas of discomfort, and how the muscles relax and contract.
Internal assessments are commonly used when addressing symptoms such as pelvic pain, painful intercourse, urinary leakage, constipation, pressure, or difficulty fully relaxing the pelvic floor muscles. The examination is always explained beforehand, performed at your comfort level, and is never required in order to receive treatment.
-
Not always. Internal pelvic floor assessments are never required and are only performed when appropriate, discussed thoroughly, and fully consented to by the patient.
If an internal pelvic floor examination is both medically appropriate and consented to, a portable treatment table, chuck pad, gloves, and lubrication will be provided for the session. Patients are kindly asked to have a sheet available for the treatment table as well as an additional sheet or blanket for comfort and coverage during the examination.
-
Comfortable clothing that allows easy movement is recommended. Depending on your symptoms and treatment goals, movement assessments and exercises may be incorporated during your session.
